Our state of the art environment enhances learning for all students

New Build Gallery

This section of the website has been designed to show students, parents and the community some of the key features of our new school which opened in September 2023. All images below have been taken by Andrew Heptinstall Photography.

External Images of the School

The images below show the front and side elevations of the building from Monkseaton Drive and Deneholm. There is also an image of the school from the central courtyard and a bird’s eye view of solar panels on the roof.

Social Spaces

The building has been designed to provide opportunities for social interaction. Alongside a beautiful and spacious main hall, students have access to a covered undercroft as well as canopies with outdoor seating.

The Main Hall

The main hall is a prominent facility within the new building. It is a large, multi-purpose space which is used for assemblies, dining and break times as well as for independent study, training and events. It has bleacher seating, catering services and a state-of-the-art AV system. The room is enhanced by natural light from large windows at the front of the building.

Classrooms

Classrooms have been designed to provide optimal conditions for learning. This includes assessing lighting levels, thermal comfort and providing fresh-air ventilation systems. Classrooms have a large and modern Smart board which is in close proximity to all seating positions. The science labs are also an exceptional space to practise both academic and practical learning. Our IT suites are large and spacious and facilitate online learning, alongside excellent provision for Wi-Fi.

Practical Subject Classrooms

As well as classrooms that have been designed for academic learning, there are dedicated spaces for practical subjects which are taught in large, spacious classrooms. As you can see from the technology classrooms below, they are also equipped with a high standard of equipment.

Lecture theatre

The Lecture Theatre is located opposite the Sixth Form Centre and provides a wonderful space for a number of purposes including lecture style lessons, career talks, revision sessions, Student Council meetings and staff training. The Lecture Theatre can hold up to 80 students.

The Sixth Form Study Centre

Our state of the art Sixth Form Centre provides a modern and exceptional space for Post 16 learning. We have taken inspiration from different universities to provide our students with an environment where they can learn both independently and within groups. Sixth Form students access the school’s IT provision using school desktops or their own devices. Like the Main Hall and classrooms around the school, the centre provides optimal conditions for learning with a light, open space, comfortable temperature, and fresh air ventilation.

Physical Education Indoor Spaces

Physical Education is provided in a separate block (B Block) to the main building (A Block). This includes a large sports hall, 2 activity studios and a fitness suite. In addition, the department has access to an outdoor 3G and astro turf pitch as well as a large grass rugby pitch.

Corridors, Stairwells and Toilets

The school has been designed with wide corridors and staircases to allow students to travel quickly to their lessons. Student toilets are allocated on each floor, with handwashing facilities that are open to the corridor.

Final School Plan

Demolition of the old school buildings is ongoing. The image below shows the final design, post demolition, including installation of a large football pitch, where the old school currently stands.
